Brief Descriptions

1/5/17 – Welcome to Florida – We do Landscaping Differently Here – If you are new to Central Florida, this is a must class for you.  Learn how it’s different and how to deal with it.

2/2/17 – Plant Familiarization and Proper Planting Techniques – This talk will help you identify all the plants in your landscape and know how to care for them.  The more you know about them the better they will do for you.  If you ever planted something and later see it die, it may be because you didn’t plant it correctly. Come learn how to do it right.

2/2/17 – Butterfly Gardening – In this highly popular talk, participants will learn about the various butterflies in our area and how to attract them to your yard.

4/6/17 – Lawn Care – For us this is our number one gardening problem.  Come learn the basics and have a nice lawn, plus deal with pests.  Come learn the basics necessary to have a nice lawn.

5/4/17 – Tree Care – We often take our trees for granted until they get sick or die.  Come learn how to properly select and care for them, how to recognize problems, how to hire an arborist, and dealing with hurricanes.

6/1/17 – Dealing With Drought and Heat – Although our area averages 55 inches of rainfall a year, it doesn’t always come when our landscape needs it; yet when we get the majority of rain during our hot, humid summer , it’s hard on us.  Come learn ways to cope with both.

7/6/17– Bulbs for Central Florida– Although we can’t grow tulips or daffodils like our friends up north, you can grow a variety of bulbs especially adapted for own area.  Come learn about them.

8/3/17 – Pest Control – Pests are a year-round problem in Florida.  Come learn how to effectively deal with insects, diseases, weeds, nematodes, and physiological disorders.  This talk will also include natural pest control and plant scouting.

9/7/17 – Wild Flowers and Native Plants – This is a must class if you want to learn more about our native plants and wild flowers in Florida.  They add color and reduce maintenance.

10/5/17 – Garden Tools – Tools are designed to make our work easier.  Come learn how to select, use, and care for your tools.

11/2/17 – Houseplants – Learn how to be successful with houseplants.  This presentation will include not only their basic care needs, but also how to diagnose and correct problems, suggested varieties to grow, and where to place them.

12/7/17 – History of Gardening– An interesting talk on how gardening has become what it is today.

All talks will include handouts and opportunities to ask questions.

 1/14/17 – Landscapes At Risk and Upgrading Your Landscape – In this informative talk, learn why our landscapes aren’t like they should be and how to improve them.

 2/11/17 – Wild Flowers and Native Plants – This is a must class if you want to learn more about our native plants and wild flowers in Florida.  They add color and reduce maintenance.

 6/10/17 – Pruning – This will be a “hands-on” class where you will learn how and when to prune the various plants in your landscape.  Participants are encouraged to bring their pruning tools.

10/14/17 – Edible Landscaping – This is a great way to provide fresh herbs and delicious vegetables and fruits to your landscape.  Especially if you don’t have room for a conventional vegetable garden plot.
