Pest Alert – Harlequin Ladybird

 

In the latest Journal Science, German researchers have discovered that the Harlequin Ladybird – a bright red ladybug that was used to control numerous insect pests in commercial greenhouse operations – has been found to harbor a single-celled fungus that can wipe out our native ladybugs.  The Harlequin Ladybird seems to be immune to this pest.
