For those of you who have red maples in your landscape, be on the lookout for this pest. Symptoms include numerous brown areas within the canopy, which later fall off. These are caused when the adult borer lays eggs within the branch twigs, which become larvae that feed on the twig tissue.
If found, the best thing that you can do is prune out these dead areas and destroy all infected twigs.
Although this problem does not seriously impact the health of the tree, it can aesthetically.
